
The Gangotri Gaumukh Tapovan trek is a dream trek not only for the spiritual seekers but also for the adventure seekers. With stunning views of the Bhagirathi Group of peaks, the majestic Shivling peak, Mt Meru among others, this trek is replete with boulder hopping, scree zones, rock fall zones, glacier crossings and much more! This trek will take you to the source of the river Ganga, the river that is the most sacred to Hindus.
Beginners can easily trek up to Gaumukh with our guidance. To trek up to Tapovan, all you need is to be fit both physically and mentally and leave the rest to us!
A typical itinerary (customizable) is as follows:
DAY 1- RISHIKESH:
Today we take you to a hotel at Rishikesh. In the evening, you can experience the divine Ganga Arati (worship of the river Ganges) simply stroll along or sit by its banks.
DAY 2- RISHIKESH TO UTTARKASHI(6 to 7hr):
Today, we start early after breakfast to drive to Uttarkashi. Situated on the bank of roaring Bhagirathi, this town is famous for the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM). The drive to Uttarkashi is beautiful and along the Bhagirathi river.
We'll arrive at Uttarkashi in the afternoon. After lunch and some rest, we'll walk up to the Kashi Vishwanath temple followed by a tour of NIM.
We'll stay the night at a hotel / Tourist guest house.
DAY 3- UTTARKASHI TO GANGOTRI(5 to 6hr):
Today, we'll drive to Gangotri after breakfast . We'll stop for lunch enroute at Gangnani and you could even take a splash under a refreshing hot spring. We'll arrive at Gangotri in the afternoon and we'll help you check in to your hotel / Tourist guest house. In the evening you will witness the Ganga Arati at Gangotri and the worship of the goddess in the temple.

Most trekking agencies do not include this acclimatization day in their itineraries but we consider acclimatization as one of the most important elements for a successful trek. Hence, today we'll explore Gangotri. We will visit the Surya Kund where you will find interesting rock formations eroded due to the strong current of the Bhagirathi. We will also visit the Pandava Gufa which is believed to have been the resting place of the Pandavas of the Mahabharata. In the evening you can stroll in the market area or simply sit by the banks of the Bhagirathi.
Most trekking agencies do not include this acclimatization day in their itineraries but we consider acclimatization as one of the most important elements for a successful trek. Hence, today we'll explore Gangotri. We will visit the Surya Kund where you will find interesting rock formations eroded due to the strong current of the Bhagirathi. In the evening you can stroll in the market area or simply sit by the banks of the Bhagirathi.

DAY 5 - GANGOTRI to BHOJBASA (14km):
We start our trek early today. 2km from Gangotri is the entrance to the Gangotri National Park. Permits will be checked here. After walking for a km more, the Bhagirathi river joins us and will keep us company for a long time. After walking for 6km more we come across Chirbasa. Our permits are again checked here and we break for lunch. The route may gets a little tricky as well as adventurous from here as there are a couple of rock fall zones. We'll help you negotiate these.
DAY 6 - BHOJBASA to GAUMUKH to TAPOVAN (4km + 5km): The trek to Gaumukh is pretty well laden with a few boulder hopping. However, here's where it gets exciting and you're all set on your little adventure! The trek to Tapovan from Gaumukh involves crossing the Gangotri glacier as well as dodging moraines and crevasses. The last km greets us with a near vertical climb and crossing the Akash Ganga to reach the Tapovan top. Once you reach there, as the mighty Shivling greets you, you'll realize that all the turmoil was worth it. DAY 7: Tapovan: We spend the day at Tapovan today. We visit the Neel Tal lake. The reflections of Mt. Shivling on the crystal clear waters of this lake are stunning. DAY 8: Tapovan to Bhojbasa (9km 3-4hrs): We trace our steps back to Bhojbasa today and camp here for the night. DAY 9: Bhojbasa to Gangotri (14km 5-7hrs): We trek back to Gangotri today and we'll help you to check into a guest house/hotel. DAY 10: Gangotri to Uttarkashi (5hrs): Drive to Uttarkashi and stay overnight at a hotel/guest house. DAY 11- Uttarkashi to Rishikesh: Drive to Rishikesh and transfers to the railway station.
